Found new things!

3 May 2011

I've been looking for a PC racer for the Aspergers PC Club and I might have found it.

Need for Speed World
Free to sign up - with one big con - if you sign up with your facebook account you have to agree for them to be able to post on your wall - WHY?
Sign up with your email, just to be safe. So far I've only had my initial 'Hello' so that's a plus so far.
Game is good, about 400-800mb of download depending on your HD size and quality (IE speed of your PC).
I'm having to run it at 800x600 with all the low settings to get a good framerate (Windows 7 score of 3.2 on the home PC).

Which brings me onto iobit's Game Booster. You can download this from Major Geeks (this is where the official website links to anyway.
Beware - this software albeit free tries to install 2 toolbars and about 5 bits of trail software.
Don't, untick all of them. Hide the dropbox, you can only have one game in the free version.
The best part is when your turn on the Game Booster. You can select which services you want to stop, which programs and taskbar watchers (like iTunes, Jushed, gfx graphics tray, etc).
Once run it freed up around 400mb of memory and 300mb of pagefile.

More for me and my Game.

Need for Speed World loaded and ran faster and, more importantly, did not crash for a few good races.

Try them, they are free. (watch out with Game Boost when installing though.)

I'll try and edit this post with screenshots soon.

Black is the new BSOD!

18 Apr 2011

I've just installed the new Service Pack one on a Windows 7 Machine and restarted. Now I have the new BSOD, the Black Screen of Death!

Trying several of the fixes doing the rounds, no fix yet though. Just trying the PrevX.

Nope PrevX didn't work.

Blank Screen after logon. Looks like it's roll back time....

Update: Can't roll back, no restore point! (Then why did sp1 say it was making one hmm....)
Had to install standard VGA drivers instead in safe mode.

Now I've got a great screen from MS! "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is now installed."

No sh!t Sherlock, should read  "Service Pack one is installed and has cabbaged your graphics drivers"
Oh, wait. Maybe it did, behind the BLSOD.....

Finally!

Finally!
I've managed to do this .net cover in canvas.
Not that I couldn't do it, just that it took some working out.
Thanks to Firefox's Error console. (Chrome can do this but not as quick.)

Added the HSV conversion algorithm off the web. Original source is at

Say NINite to install woes.

31 Mar 2011

This is a great little tool for all sorts of situations. If you want to download just a couple of programs or a shedload.

For example, StudyWiz, the VLE. It uses a raft of little programs like Flash, Java, Silverlight, etc. With Ninite (pronounced NIN ite, btw) you can get an installer for these files. It's very small, takes less than a minute to download and does the hard work for us.

For the bigger stuff, so far it's got them covered. My favourites are Paint.net, Inkscape and LibreOffice. With this tool you can start it off and let it download and install over 400mb of software for you.

So, if like me, you need to install a lot of software, but don't want to carry around all the files, NINite WINS!

The best part comes last, if your software is updated, just run NINite again. It downloads the new one and updates it for you.

Oh, did I say it's free?

Black Ops Emblems

22 Mar 2011

I've been playing with this lately and was wanting to show somebody my efforts. I got stuck in school by two things:
1. The site was blocked, so I could send off for it unblocking.
2. The Game is an 18 so a lot of the Emblems other people make are 18+

So here are my Emblems, I've used a few in Blops and I'm gonna have to change the Starbuxs one, they have a new logo this year!

Here's the webpage that lets you make these

Having fun with this. Just getting it setup for my life.
Apps are no more than shortcuts to webpages, unless you've got Android!
(Angry Birds coming to your PC soon!)

It's Snow good.

17 Jan 2010

OK we just got rid of about 5 inches of snow here. In the week it snowed I went into work. I spent about and hour and three quarters getting into work and then got sent home at dinner time!

The day after the roads were so bad on the estate that it was impossible to get to a main road. I've heard lots of stories of people stuck at home. Our council said to make no journeys unless absolutely necessary.

I've been thinking, perhaps people could have made it into work on Wednesday but, as we haven't had this much snow in twenty years, I think everybody had the day off to play and sledge in the snow. My daughter said that this is the first time in her 19 years she has been able to build a snowman taller than herself.

The fun only lasted about 3 days though. Then they were all bored of the snow.

New year, new post.

OK, news years resolution. What shall I say, a post a fortnight? OK, I'll try.

Rainmembrance Parade.

8 Nov 2009

Well I've got to thank all the scouts that came out to Remembrance Day Parade today. We all got soaked, along with the Cubs and Beavers. We had to abandon the church service the kids were so wet. I hope the service went well.
12th Monkbretton were impeccably behaved as always. Just when you didn't think it could rain anymore, it did.

Holiday Fun

24 Aug 2009

Just had 3 weeks Holiday. 1 Week in Wales with 24 Scouts and 2 weeks in Filey with the Family.
Wales was fantastic. I can't say where we stayed because none of the places matches the sound of the actual places we stayed at.
Filey is a great base for an East coast holiday. We went to Brid and Scarborough and Flamborough Head et al. Good weather overall.
I'll post more now I know my blog still works.
